PETS WITHOUT PARENTS

Pets Without Parents (PWP) of Mason and Logan Counties is promoting several new opportunities for pet guardians to spay or neuter their cats and dogs at affordable prices.

Under the Illinois Public Health and Safety Animal Population Control Program, anyone who receives food stamps or supplemental security income, or who is the manager of a recognized feral cat colony may have their cats and dogs sterilized and vaccinated for only $15 per animal at a participating veterinary clinic!  Applications and documentation of eligibility must be sent to the Illinois Department of Public Health in Springfield, Illinois.  Upon receipt of the application, the Department of Public Health will issue a voucher that is to be presented along with $15 to the veterinarian at the time of the surgery.  Participating veterinary clinics in the local area at this time include:

Greenhaven Animal Clinic in San Jose at 309-247-3231;

Lincoln Animal Hospital in Lincoln at 217-732-1719;

Animal Protective League in Springfield at 217-544-7387.

Applications may be obtained at the Offices of Public Health or Public Aid in both Mason and Logan counties, or by calling PWP at 309-562-7240 (Mason County) or

217-735-4104 (Logan County).  PWP will also provide assistance with the application process, animal transport, and other needs that pet owners may have with regard to this program.

Pet guardians who are not eligible for the program described above may take advantage of the low-cost spay and neuter program sponsored by a PWP/APL partnership.  Under this program, Logan and Mason county residents may have their dogs spayed and neutered at the APL low-cost spay/neuter clinic in Springfield for $50.  The cost to sterilize cats is $30 for males and $40 for females.  All animals over 4 months of age must have proof of rabies vaccination or be vaccinated at APL for an additional fee of $6.

Transportation may be provided by PWP.  Additional information may be obtained by calling PWP at 309-562-7240 (Mason County) or 217-735-4104 (Logan County).
